The library has the perfect answer -- games in the afternoon.

Board games will be available in the meeting rooms and throughout the library, and X-Box Kinect will be set up in the large meeting room.

Teen Read Week is all about getting young adults to read just for the fun of it. It's sponsored by YALSA, the Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association. The idea is to raise awareness among teens about library resources and services. Here's YALSA's website: http://www.ala.org/yalsa.

On the website, you'll find a list of Teens' Top Ten books published in the past year. Nominations come from 16 school and public libraries from around the country. Any teen age 12 to 18 can vote for their choice from the nominated titles in August and September. So, that means you'll have to wait until next summer/fall to make your voice heard if you have a favorite book.

Find out the winners by clicking on the YALSA website link above, or download the PDF file directly from: http://www.ala.org/yalsa/sites/ala.org.yalsa/files/content/teenreading/teenstopten/2012TeensTopTenWINNERS.pdf

Let us know if you have read any of these books and what you thought about them. If you'd like to have your comments posted as a mini-review on this blog, submit your comment here (just click on the pencil icon), or e-mail to: cloquetlib.teenblog@gmail.com.
You're already here after school - why not have some fun at our Game Day for Teens!

This Monday (September 17) from 4 to 7 PM, we'll have games set up in our meeting rooms for Middle Schoolers and High Schoolers. The smaller conference room will have chess and checkerboards and card games ready for you. In the larger meeting room, you'll find more board games set up on the tables, and XBox Kinect.

We'll be having a game day once a month, usually on the third Monday of the month, and you're always welcome to take part. This time, though, Game Day is specifically for you - no parents or younger kids, just teens.

Free popcorn and punch will be provided. Popcorn will be delivered directly from Premier Theaters just for the event! (A big thanks to Premier Theater for generously donating popcorn!)
How do you write a ghost story? What is it like to live
in a haunted house? Young adult author Kathryn Knutson will discuss these
topics and read from her new Y.A. novel, "The Possession of Cassie
Quinn," on Friday, June 29, at 1 p.m. Join us for a spine-tingling good
time!

You may have told your friends about the dream--and they may have been just as clueless about it.
A workshop on dream analysis, "Understanding the
Dreams You Dream," with author Craig Groethe, will be held in the large
meeting room on Monday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m. This will be a fun, interactive,
and enlightening class. With an overview of the types of dreams, their significance,
and the symbolic language of dreams, participants will learn how to glean
insight from their own dreams. The program is intended for both teen and adult
audiences.

This blog is being inaugurated to coincide with the opening of a new space for teens at the Cloquet Public Library. Look for letters spelling out "Teen Scene" on the far back wall of the library . . . You'll find an area that has been planned and designed with the help of a teen panel from CHS.

A fundraiser was held at the library last fall during our semi-annual used-book sale, with teen volunteers staffing the B&B wagon. Money raised went toward the purchase of games for the library's new Xbox Kinect. Xbox can be played in the library's large meeting room on Monday evenings from 4 to 5 p.m.

The new teen space at the back of the library includes a booth, a table and chairs, a Foof chair (basically a beanbag), and three computer workstations. Plans also include a small game table in the near future. Board games can be checked out now at the front desk. Young adult fiction has been moved to shelves along the back wall.

Drop by after school or in the evening to check out the new area!
